SERC

Exploitation of Vulnerabilities:

Increased digitalization has heightened cyber security risks across SERC’s footprint. To protect critical infrastructure, entities must adopt robust protocols, including network segmentation, encryption, advanced security tools, and continuous risk management practices. As the reliance on digital systems grows, entities must adopt advanced cybersecurity solutions and collaborative risk management practices to safeguard grid security from increasingly sophisticated threats.

Why It Matters

Cyberattacks and other threats targeting bulk power system vulnerabilities continue to evolve. Exploitation of weak points such as legacy systems, misconfigurations and inadequate defenses can disrupt operations and compromise system security.

The threat landscape includes ransomware, phishing, and supply chain attacks, all of which demand greater cybersecurity maturity and resilience.

What SERC Is Doing

SERC monitors threats and collaborates with industry partners to share information, perform analysis and develop mitigation strategies. Through its Assist Program and committee engagement, SERC provides tools and guidance to help entities improve their cybersecurity posture.
