Strengthening Reliability Through Independent Internal Control Assessments
SERC’s Internal Controls Assessment (ICA) Program is a voluntary service available to registered entities. The program provides a structured, third-party review of an entity’s internal controls and how those controls support the reliability and security of the Bulk Power System.
Each assessment includes:
A pre-engagement questionnaire,
Structured discussions with subject matter experts, and
A final report summarizing strengths, improvement areas, and a maturity level for each control category.
Driving Collaboration, Governance, and Resilience Beyond Compliance
Because the ICA Program operates independently of compliance monitoring, it encourages open collaboration and constructive feedback.
Participation in this program can also inform risk-based monitoring plans and, in some cases, may reduce the frequency or scope of compliance oversight.
