Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee

The role of the SERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee is to provide information and training that protects the assets defined in the Critical Infrastructure Protection standards and promote best practices in securing these assets. This includes addressing all cyber and physical threats and actions designed to disrupt the bulk electric system and identifying the risks associated with these threats.

Eligibility For Membership

Each SERC Member Company is entitled to appoint up to three representatives and one or more alternates to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee. Representatives and alternates should be appointed based on expertise in one of the following three disciplines:

Physical Security Representative

Provides physical security expertise for electricity sector facilities (including, but not limited to, generation, dams, transmission, critical facilities, and buildings)

Cyber Security Representative

Provides cyber security expertise primarily for market and reliable power system operations (including, but not limited to, SCADA, EMS, DCS, telecommunications infrastructure and market applications such as OASIS), but with consideration also to systems required for business continuity.

Operations Representative

Provides operations expertise with a focus on control room system operations of an interconnected electrical network and the systems essential to reliable operations.
